August 11, 2017 - Texas Forever in Chicago?
Being from Texas I love barbecue...probably a little too much. I moved to Chicago two years ago and from day one I went searching for the best barbecue place here in the city. I've tried most of them and settled on one favorite, Green Street Smoked Meats.
It's the one restaurant I can go to here in Chicago and instantly be transported back to Texas. Walking in to the restaurant you feel like you've somehow ended up in Austin, TX not the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago.
Lunch with Courtney at Green Street Smoked Meats earlier today was awesome. While placing an order for brisket the person behind the counter doing the slicing asked if I wanted it sliced from the point end (which of course I did). She said she saw my shirt which says "Texas Forever" on the front and figured I knew what I wanted in bbq. I was then asked if I wanted the burnt ends from the point. That's not even a question I need to think about to know the answer...YES!
Courtney got pulled pork, we both got elotes style corn and some baked beans to share. The sauce is served on the side (except for the pulled pork). Green Street's smokers are cooking up food using oak just like what you'd find in Central Texas. The brisket here at Green Street doesn't need the sauce, it's flavor stands up well on its own.
If you want Texas style barbecue in Chicago, Green Street Smoked Meats is the place to go! Great barbecue, friendly staff, and a cool atmosphere!
P.S. The Texas Forever shirt was picked up on a recent trip to Texas at Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco.
